I have 3 digital thermometers that I use with my Green-egg smoker. All of them give a reading that 2 to 4 degrees difference,which is fine. I received a Maverick ET-72 as a gift and it is terrible. It is roughly 30 to 40 degrees off after it gets above 100 degrees. If I ate food based on this unit I would possibly be dead from food poisoning.

I know the unit is junk, because I have cut a piece of meat open after it said it was at medium to medium rare and it was a bloody mess. The only reason I gave it 1 star was that it does turn on.

Worked as advertised for about 8 weeks. Then the temperature probe suddenly began reading 190 to 210 all the time. Likely just a bad probe, but how can one obtain just the probe? Not a chance. Have to purchase a whole new one. So I am on the lookout for a better quality product. Maybe something that will last a year...

Just bought a new one after my trusty Weber (Oregon?) one of ten years failed after I let it get wet. The Maverick started properly and seems accurate but fails to work at anywhere near the claimed 100 feet. Even a single wall stops the signal. Checked the batteries too no difference. Product review blogs paint a similar picture. Very disappointed and retailer, OneCountryShop in northern CA, didn't want to know about it. Seems like a case of misleading advertising to me.
